R Kelly’s Daughter

I don’t have many words about R Kelly’s daughter Buku Abi (Joann Kelly). In the 2024 documentary, R. Kelly’s Karma: A Daughter’s Journey, it is said she mentioned abuse from her father. I was hoping it wasn’t true when I first heard about it. I thought maybe it wasn’t true. I thought it was just a rumor or another tabloid story. I never saw the R. Kelly Karma documentary.

I listen carefully to what Damon Dash has got to say whenever he talks about Aaliyah & R Kelly. I don’t think Damon lied when he said Aaliyah tried to talk and she couldn’t. When someone does something real bad to a person, it probably is hard to talk about it. It might have been real hard for Joann Kelly. R Kelly is her father.

I Believe People in the Industry Preyed on Aaliyah

Aaliyah was a child when she was in the music industry. She performed on television at age 10, signed her first major recording contract at 12, and released her multi-platinum debut album, Age Ain't Nothing but a Number, at just 14 years old. Some people try to say Aaliyah made the choice. A choice to what? She made a choice to be an entertainer. Aaliyah might not have known how dark the industry was at that time.

The Partying and Drugs

When I was trying to get in the music industry and had a chance to audition, I didn’t even know how dark it could be. But I was aware that entertainers did party, get depressed, and get introduced to drugs. I think that is the whole starting point about the dark side of things. And when you start going down, it looks like it’s all your fault with your name tied up in tabloids. That’s like the name of the game. Who offered the drugs? Who slipped something in the drink to get the people started? Those people are never judged or questioned.

Aaliyah Mentioning the Dark Side in her 20s

All of these things may have been the reason Aaliyah mentioned the dark side. Maybe Aaliyah liked partying. Maybe she thought she was that evil dark side. Maybe she felt bad about what might have been happening to her. Maybe she wanted her fans to know and couldn’t tell them. Maybe. We are so quick to judge people. I believe Aaliyah wanted to sing, and she was being preyed upon.

The Age Difference

They knew Aaliyah liked the color black, and her Uncle Barry just happened to have a record company called Blackground records. They probably knew Aaliyah liked guys. Then the big scandal came between Aaliyah and R Kelly. Even R Kelly might not have known some things at his age in his twenties. Your adult years are only just beginning in your twenties. You have just left your teens (13-19). When we reach 19, we are quick to say we are grown. Some parents are ready to send you off and get you out of the house.

God Loved Aaliyah

I don’t believe God wanted Aaliyah to die regardless of her mistakes. Whatever mistakes were made, God still loved Aaliyah. He created her. And he expects us to still love her too and forgive. He knew Aaliyah’s heart and her intentions from a child on up. We do not. All the mess that might have happened to Aaliyah (whether it was cult or not), does not make Aaliyah an extremely evil and bad person. Aaliyah was Catholic. She did speak on God. If she went to hell, then we are going too. Think about it.

Revelation 2:24

24 But unto you I say, and unto the rest in Thyatira, as many as have not this doctrine, and which have not known the depths of Satan, as they speak; I will put upon you none other burden

The "Rest" in Thyatira: Jesus addresses those who did not submit to false teachings that blended Christianity with pagan, immoral practices.

Depths of Satan": This likely refers to doctrines pretending to be profound, hidden spiritual knowledge, which were actually deceptive and evil.

"No Other Burden": Jesus promises no further requirements or judgments upon them, encouraging them to hold on to the simple, core gospel.

Jazze Pha Speaks on Producing For Aaliyah

Jazze Pha talks about Aaliyah and her mom. So that proves that Aaliyah's mom was around and with Aaliyah. I'm not understanding what he was talking about clearly. Someone interrupted Aaliyah’s mom while she was talking. I think he said Aaliyah's mom walked out the room & Aaliyah's phone ranged. She got up and walked out the room too. I’m not sure really what was going on but somebody had to apologize to Aaliyah’s mom lol. It Sounds like Aaliyah’s mom was respected .

Rock the Boat Message

via GIPHY

This morning when I looked at clips and questions about Aaliyah in the Bahamas, I discerned something. Whenever I see this clip, I discern Aaliyah saying: That is not me!

What I Think the Discernment Means

As I think back, I remember a little documentary clip saying Aaliyah did not like going under water making the music video ‘Rock the Boat’. It was not easy for her.

For those of us that were not there with Aaliyah, we do not know what happened to her and all those that were with her because we do not know if we are being told the truth or not. I believe something did happen to Aaliyah though. It's possible there is more to the story.

Someone Called Me Worried About the Story of Aaliyah

Not all hearsay is false. We just don’t really know what is false or what’s true. I was giving up on the news about Aaliyah until someone close to me called worried. And he doesn’t usually worry or say nothing about entertainers.

He said, “Gail, they did Aaliyah real bad. She went through a lot. I mean she went through a lot of stuff.”

It must have bothered him in order for him to call me. I think he had been watching TV. And I think it was kind of devastating to him because he hadn’t been keeping up with the story of Aaliyah’s tragic death the way I have been for years. And if it bothered him, and he’s a father, I know that there is something to the story. It’s too many people talking about Aaliyah’s death like it just happened yesterday.

Now they are talking about Jay Z again and saying that he was in the Epstein files. The internet will probably tell you that it’s not true and that there is no record of Jay Z being in the files. I hope it’s not true, and I hope that he wasn’t a part of any crimes committed. Somebody keeps adding on and telling some things here and there to keep people coming back.

The things that are being said and the pictures that are being shown sound and look very serious. I’m thinking and asking myself: What have these people been doing? I wonder how long has it been going on and how long will it continue? I’m worried too.

Aaliyah appeared to be a nice girl growing up. But when you get around people that do bad things, either they are going to bring you down or something’s going to bring them down. One or the other.

If Aaliyah Could Come Back

Sometimes it looked as if Aaliyah was hurting in her eyes. It looked as if she was sometimes tired and battling things though she wanted her career. If she could come back, she would probably take back everything that was taken from her.

I made a post called Speaker Vault. When I made it, I thought about how there was a struggle with her music. Then I thought about the new projects that were supposed to be in the makings like Unstoppable. There were supposed to be collaboration with other artists like Drake. People still want Aaliyah. They still love her voice.

I made the post Spreaker Vault because if Aaliyah could come back, she might would decide she would want to be in charge of her music. She might would let the old music go, make new, bigger, and better music, and keep it all away from being taken over. She would be the boss of it. She would be a much wiser and older Aaliyah I’m sure away from bad guys. 😏

I can’t forget what Aaliyah said.

“When it comes to my career, when it comes to my life, don’t get in my way. I’m not gonna have it.” It comes from an older interview where she was speaking assertively about protecting her vision, not letting others dictate her path, and staying in control of her own career decisions.

She had a similar vibe in a 2001 clip where she told someone, “You are employed by me, so don’t get it twisted,” emphasizing that she was the boss of her own music and direction. She was known for being soft-spoken and graceful in public, but she could be very direct and protective when it came to her artistry and boundaries. This quote captures that side of her perfectly—quiet confidence with a steel edge.

Is the Story of Jay Z and Aaliyah Conspiracy?

Aaliyah and Jay-Z
Chablee Peterson

Written by Gail Nobles 4/10/2026

When I hear that Jay Z and P Diddy had something to do with Aaliyah’s Death, I have to wonder if it’s all just conspiracy. I have to wonder if somebody is making millions off of that story. Now it has been said that Whitney Houston has said that Clive Davis had something to do with Aaliyah’s Death. It’s funny how Jay Z has not been arrested if it is true. There has been no proof that either Jay Z or Diddy had anything to do with the death of Aaliyah.

It seems there are documents that Aaliyah had a relationship with R Kelly. It has also been said that someone stated that the marriage was fake to boost Aaliyah’s career. What was said the first time about Aaliyah being married to R Kelly seems more accurate.

Saying that Aaliyah was drugged unconscious and forced onto the plane was written in a book, but there is no evidence that Aaliyah was drugged. Claims that Jay-Z (sometimes with Beyoncé or Diddy) had her killed out of jealousy, to clear the path for Beyoncé’s stardom, or because she “knew too much” about industry secrets/abuse sounds like a conspiracy too. Unless there is proof, we can’t say that these things we have been hearing are true. However, I can understand why there are sometimes unanswered questions.

Aaliyah Was Climbing High

 By Gail Nobles

Aaliyah was a singer, dancer, and actress. I think about how she was climbing all the time. I think of her everyday. I know what it’s like to be on your way to do something and something intervenes to stop you.

It is said Aaliyah was in the process of starting her own clothing line with her best friend, Kidada Jones, before her death in 2001. Aaliyah would have been a mega star and business woman just like the singer Selena Quintanilla was planning to do who also passed away.

Hearing about all the negative things that were surrounding the entertainment world, maybe it wasn’t meant for Aaliyah to finish succeeding. I’m sure God looked and God saw. I do not believe that God was finished with Aaliyah. I do not believe it was time for her to go. She was climbing high.

When Aaliyah died, I saw a lot of people hurting. I was hurting. God told me to remember Aaliyah, and that she was real.

Marvin Winans Mentions Aaliyah Wanting to do Gospel Album

Starting at 17:44 of the documentary “Aaliyah, Life, and Legacy”, Marvin Winans mentions Aaliyah Wanting to do a gospel album.

Footage of Aaliyah Singing “Great Is Thy Faithfulness”

Written by Gail Nobles 3/27/26

Watch the rare footage of Aaliyah singing "Great is thy Faithfulness." I believe Aaliyah would have been a great gospel singer. After watching Aaliyah sing: The Christmas Song (Christmas In Washington, 1997) there’s no way she wouldn’t have became a great gospel singer.

The Aaliyah Effect

 Hip Hop Minor Key

You see it all the time, the same snapshots of the baby girl, Aaliyah. The same clips, the same sounds. And we spin 'em, don't we? We gotta! We spin 'em to keep the flame burning, to keep that legacy alive and kicking.

But here's the real scoop, the real gas: it's the *stories* that fuel the fire. Every fan, every kid who ever got a picture with her, has a story. A true story! A thought. An opinion. *That's* the new stuff. That's what keeps her music fresh in our hearts....

Aaliyah-New Jack Swing & Modern R&B

Written by Gail Nobles 10/8/25

Aaliyah's impact on music is clear, especially when we look at the evolution of a genre called New Jack Swing. This genre first popped up in the late 1980s and became known for mixing R&B with hip-hop. Think of it as music that had catchy beats and a fusion of live instruments with electronic sounds. Teddy Riley was one of the main producers behind this style, and artists like Keith Sweat and Bobby Brown helped bring it into the mainstream.

Now, let’s talk about Aaliyah. She burst onto the music scene in the early 1990s with her first album, "Age Ain't Nothing but a Number," released in 1994. This album had a sound that was very much inspired by New Jack Swing, blending R&B rhythms with hip-hop elements. While she came a bit later than the initial wave of New Jack Swing, Aaliyah took what had been established and added her own flair. Her style became smoother and more polished, appealing to a whole new generation of fans.

To give you some context, the movie "New Jack City" came out in 1991, a few years before Aaliyah's debut album. This timeline shows that although Aaliyah didn’t start the New Jack Swing movement, she certainly played a significant role in carrying its influence into the future. Her music helped shape R&B throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, ensuring that the legacy of New Jack Swing continued even after its peak. Aaliyah really connected the dots between the past and a new, contemporary sound, making her a crucial part of that musical journey.

Why Did Aaliyah Turn Down Jay Z?

Wikipedia

It is said Aaliyah didn’t want Jay Z. I only liked one or two of Jay Z’s songs. By the time he came along, I wasn’t into rap music much anymore. Today for the first time, I heard and saw Jay Z’s rap song. I saw the video Pimpin’. Look it up if you haven’t seen it. I’m wondering now was Jay Z anything like he said he was in those lyrics or was he just making up a rap song and playing the character. He said:

…. Parts with nothin', y'all be frontin' Me give my heart to a woman? Not for nothin', never happen I'll be forever mackin' Heart cold as assassins I got no passion I got no patience, and I hate waitin'….

It makes me wonder how Aaliyah met Jay Z and why she turned him down lol. If he is anything like his lyrics, no wonder she didn’t choose him. She must have found out about him and there were things she didn’t like in order to choose Damon Dash. And he was also in Jay Z’s video Pimpin’. Well, maybe they were just playing the characters. Acting is a part of singing too.

I be reading lyrics to songs, and I start asking myself, “Who taught these people to think this way? These guys don’t think nothing good about women. Where did they come from? Where have they been?”

I don’t like to judge people by their songs, but if it’s not their frame of mind, they wouldn’t be writing and putting it into their songs in the first place or bother to use it. I wouldn’t even be thinking about some of the stuff they are talking about. It’s just a lot of hind point lol. They only need one love, and they ain’t talking about love. Not at all.

Aaliyah’s Grandfather

Aaliyah's grandfather was Ernest W. Hankerson, who passed away on November 5, 2003 in Coweta, Georgia at the age of 89. This was two years after Aaliyah's death. He looked a lot like one of my grandfather's brothers.

My great Aunt who passed away in May 2024 who was my grandfather's sister said that Aaliyah looked a whole lot like our kin. She said:You just never know who your kin might be.

My grandfather died this year in Dec. 2024 at the age of 102. I remember one day he cried. I told him to stop worrying while I was guilty of it myself. He called me an old shoe and talked about how brave I was. Sometimes you can't see yourself the way others do.

One day I saw Barry Hankerson on TV crying. He favored my grandfather so much. I don't know if there is any Hankerson's in my family or not.

I’ve Never Seen Aaliyah On Tour With R Kelly

https://flic.kr/p/6Ugmpx

In reports, I hear that Aaliyah performed with R Kelly on tour. I haven’t seen Aaliyah and R Kelly on stage together. Not one video clip. The clip that I thought I saw might not have been real from a long time ago. You know how you see something online, then try to go back to find it, and then it’s not there. So I won’t go into detail because I don’t remember everything I thought I saw.

You May Have Seen Things All Along Right Before Your Eyes

I’ve seen a real bad home video clip of women on stage naked by accident scrolling on YouTube. It might have been in 2001 or 2002. It was a long time ago. The women were using the bathroom. Somebody was filming it. I don’t think the video is on YouTube anymore. It is another video that has disappeared. If it is still on Youtube, it’s hard to find.

It looked like a party. It wasn’t Diddy’s party. At least I didn’t see him. I saw another rapper, but I won’t say his name. I don’t believe Diddy was the only one throwing those bad parties.

When you look back at those rap music videos, you see large crowds. They believe in partying. For some, it’s their lifestyle. I looked at the videos as just simply music videos, but now I see that some of the videos might have been more than meets the eye.

When I hear all the stuff that’s going on about Diddy, though Aaliyah is gone, I feel worried. It makes me wonder what really happened to Aaliyah. She looked like a nice girl that just got around the wrong people or should I say a bad business?

When they talk about Oprah while mentioning P Diddy, it sounds like the whole entertainment world.

My Thoughts On Tupac and Aaliyah

People say Aaliyah avoided Tupac because of her friend Kidada Jones. Well, I don't Know these people and was never around them. But I believe that Aaliyah had respect for her friend was one of the reasons. I believe there were other reasons too.

Another reason I believe Aaliyah avoided Tupac is because she might have known what type of guy he was. I'm sure it wasn't hard for her to find out. It is said Tupac was a playa.

Then Aaliyah was around Biggie. I don't know if he had anything to say about Tupac or not. I'm thinking if Biggie knew some stuff about Tupac, he probably liked Aaliyah enough to warn her.

Note: I don’t know if the picture below is real. It is a link embedded from another site. I don’t know who the owner is.

Aaliyah and Heavy D

It's nice to see Aaliyah in a picture with people we don't see often together. I've seen Aaliyah in a video with Heavy D in Biggie's music video. But I've never actually seen Aaliyah and Heavy D side by side. All three of them are gone now.

Aaliyah Forced into Freakoffs

YouTube

Now, they are saying Aaliyah has been forced into freakoffs. She did look tired in pictures sometimes. It may not have all been from work. Aaliyah said she loved doing what she loved to do. She had big hopes to collaborate with Janet Jackson. Aaliyah had no plans to stop her music, but she probably saw that she needed to get away from what was troubling her. She saw that her life was in danger. Aaliyah didn’t look like the type of girl that would do bad things. I often thought to myself that she could have been forced.

Now, people are questioning Aaliyah’s uncle. He said he didn’t have no idea what was going on. Aaliyah probably told him if it’s true that he made 90 million dollars off of her death.

When you do bad things and keep secrets, somebody is going to tell it. They might wait until you die, but somebody is going to tell it. Somebody knows what you did or will find you out later. The dark will come to the light.

Aaliyah Said She Hung Out With Jay

YouTube

“We Never Dated Like That.”

Aaliyah said she hung out with Jay and had a lot of fun. He was her homie, and they never dated like that. Dated like what? To me, it sounds like they dated if they were hanging out together. Damon said that Jay was courting Aaliyah. It sounds like a lot of guys were connected to Aaliyah to me. Well, I don’t care about that part. Guys and girls will date. The part that bothers me is that they make it sound as if Jay had something to do with Aaliyah’s death.

Another thing that I don’t understand is why talk about all this stuff now when they all knew what was going on in 2001 and didn’t report it to the police. Who were they protecting? They all should have been getting together and helping one another against the crimes if any were committed. Two is better than one. People should have been standing up a long time ago. But it’s not too late for more investigation.

I just hope that Jay didn’t harm Aaliyah. I don’t want to think that he did. I hope Aaliyah told the truth about them being friends.
