Did Aaliyah’s Music Tell The Story?

Aaliyah’s song, Age Ain’t Nothing But A Number, is one of the most talked about songs. Aaliyah was very young and still a child singing adult music. When I heard the song, I didn’t think or consider anything bad about the song. It was just a song to me not knowing what could have been behind the song. I heard a teenage girl, and I figured she was singing about someone older. That’s it. I was hearing Aaliyah’s song everywhere. People would repeat the title Age Ain’t Nothing but a Number in conversation.  I wasn’t a fan of Aaliyah’s or the song during that time the song was first released. I didn’t always agree with the song. I knew a few girls that liked older men, and I knew that things were not working out between them. Age did matter sometimes. However I see Aaliyah’s point. Whenever I looked at some men, they were just like boys. They didn’t grow up. …

Moving right along. Eventually Aaliyah moved to different songwriters. She was singing songs like I Don’t Know What To Tell Ya.

This is another song I never payed much attention to as far as the lyrics. I heard this song after Aaliyah passed. People began to chatter and wonder if Aaliyah was telling things through her songs. Well, she was a clever girl. She might have been. I don’t really know what Aaliyah’s intentions were, but I know that she wasn’t stupid. Aaliyah had sense enough to return home after she ran away from home. It was said she ran away. From what I understand, it was hard for Aaliyah to talk about what really happened to her. So it’s a possibility she could have put it into her music. If something bad was done to Aaliyah, I know she was probably never the same. But the story was told like no harm was really done. 

There was a big thing going on about Aaliyah’s music. Suddenly I was seeing in an article that Aaliyah’s music was going to disappear. I thought: That’s crazy. I had already bought one or two of Aaliyah’s CD’s. I know at least one. So I knew the music. I wondered what could have been so bad that her music had to disappear. I don’t even remember what I read in that article. Then sometime later I saw in headlines that Aaliyah’s music would be streaming.

I’m going to tell you right now. Don’t nobody really know what went on between Aaliyah and her family and the people that surrounded her in her life. We don’t know every conversation that Aaliyah had. We don’t know everything that was said and done. I still feel like some things were not told that lead up to her death and all that. People say a lot of things, but we really don’t know. People that do know call themselves keeping their mouths shut. I don’t see how it’s doing Aaliyah any good if anyone wants justice for her. Aaliyah did mention something to her boyfriend. That means Aaliyah wanted somebody to know. If Aaliyah tried to put it in her songs, that’s good.
