JET LI AND AALIYAH

ROMEO MUST DIE

Romeo Must Die was my favorite movie that Aaliyah starred in with Jet Li. It was from the producer of THE MATRIX. The action movie was produced by Joel Silver and Jim Van Wyck. Aaliyah seemed very excited and happy about the movie. I became a fan when I saw Aaliyah as an actress in that movie. Not expecting anything to happen to her, I thought there might be either a sequel or more movies starring Jet Li and Aaliyah together.

Jet Li was someone I watched act in movies many times before the movie Romeo Must Die. I was
already a Jet Li fan. I became a fan of Aaliyah’s after I saw her perform her hit song, Try Again, thanks to a friend and co-worker. Then the same friend let me borrow the movie to watch. After watching the movie, I wanted to see more of Jet Li and Aaliyah together.

Jet Li and Aaliyah’s Breakthrough

Romeo Must Die was released by Warner Bros. Pictures in the United States on March 24, 2000. Despite mixed critical reviews, it was a box office success, grossing $91 million against a production budget of $25 million. The film was considered Li's American film breakthrough and Aaliyah's acting breakthrough. Retrospectively, the film has received attention for the pairing of an Asian-American and Black-American in the lead roles.
