Aaliyah singing style was totally different from everybody else's. She was simple and straight to the point with her songs. You could understand an Aaliyah song. You could get the meaning of what she was singing about. Her voice and vocals had a soothing sound. However, she caught people's attention with the hip hop sound along with it. Aaliyah liked Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye. It would have been nice if she could have worked with someone like Stevie Wonder. That would have made Aaliyah grow stronger in her music.
What Aaliyah did was still nice. While rappers were rapping about violence, Aaliyah gave something more to hip hop just singing about love. All we ever heard was negative things in hip hop. Rappers taught us how to be proud, lustful, and boastful. However, if you would look back and listen, to me, it was Aaliyah adding spice to hip hop not knowing how to rap. She knew the words to sing with hip hop rhythm and beat. I paid no attention when Aaliyah was alive, but I see what was going on now back then.
Aaliyah seemed to have a knack for love songs. She had a voice for them. Aaliyah didn't sing just a bunch of words thrown together drowned with music. Aaliyah was special. She had more to give and needed to be surrounded by the very best in the business. Aaliyah needed someone that has been in the business for a very long time that could help her with deeper songs with the old fashion style. I'm thinking of someone like Quincy Jones, Stevie Wonder, Chaka Khan, and Gladys Knight. If anyone knew deep songs, these people have been in the business long enough to know. The older crowd could have put the finishing touch on her music along with the younger crowd. R Kelly, Missy Elliot, and Timberland were good too for the new generation.
